Our firm's senior management staff has owned, operated, and/or managed multiple insurance interests since 1980.

Management Team: Edwin (Ed) L  Hemphill , CIC  - Property & Casualty Insurance Marketing Manager , Deborah ( Debbie) Lynn  Hemphill Office Manager , and David Hemphill  Life & Health Insurance Marketing Manager.

Ed Hemphill, CIC began his insurance carrier in June 1970 with the Prudential Insurance Company of America and earned his Certified Insurance Counselors (CIC) designation from the Society Of Certified Insurance Counselors in 1988.

In 1980 ; after 10 very successful years with Prudential; Ed formed a multiple lines  property/casualty/life/health/& accident insurance agency operating under the name of " Hemphill Insurance Agency " . That agency quickly became a leading retail property & casualty insurance firm operating primarily in the Texas insurance market place by offering individuals , small, or large business firms multiple lines of personal & commercial lines of property - casualty coverage.

In 1982 the Hemphill's formed a Managing General Agency which operated under the name of Insurance Brokerage Services of Houston to offer independent agencies a  wholesale distribution center for health , life ,and accident lines of coverage. .

The Hemphill Insurance Agency management team decided to sale it's book of property & casualty premium in 1989 so that we could focus our efforts toward our rapid growth in the health/life/accident markets with MetLife's new Texas based HMO small group health product lines ;  Insurance Brokerage Services of Houston contracted in 1989 with MetLife Healthcare of Texas as their exclusive MGA distribution center to offer all Texas licensed independent insurance agencies MetLife's new Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) program for small employers groups with 5 to 35 employees.

In 1992 Insurance Brokerage Services of Houston merged into a new operating firm named National Marketing Manager (NMM) .  NMM  operated as the exclusive national distribution center for the Philadelphia  American Life Insurance Companies individual short term medical program. NMM is a wholesale distribution center and marketing firm that offers quality health/life/accident insurance products to more that 4,000 independent insurance agents on a Nationwide basis.

In 1994 National Marketing and Administration ( NM & A ) a Texas General Partnership was formed to operate as a licensed and bonded Third Party Administrator  (TPA)  . NM & A performed the tasks of underwriting , policy issue, premium collection ,  agent commission payment , general customer service , claims customer service , claims processing , and claims payment for several leading insurance carriers for a fully insured short term medical program and an occupational accident insurance program . NM & A  also provided Administrative Service Only (ASO) third party administrative services to many large self insured employer groups for their employee benefit programs. In 2000 the Hemphill's sold their interest in NM&A to UNMARK Insurance Services (a division of the Transworld Mortgage Group ).

Ed Hemphill, C.I.C.  announced in January 2012 Hemphill Insurance Agency had contracted with several leading managing general agencies such as MarketScout , AgentSecure/InsureZone, Myron Steves , and Tryton Insurance Services ( a division of Myron F. Steves); as producing agency business partners/producers with these firms we have access to many of the leading standard or surplus lines property & casualty ( P&C) insurance companies operating through out America.

Deborah (Debbie) Lynn Hemphill began her insurance carrier in December 1994 with National Marketing & Administration as Manager of the Underwriting and General Administration units of this licensed & bonded Third Party Administrator . In September 2007 Debbie joined Hemphill Insurance Agency's Life & Health Insurance Marketing Department as a licensed Texas General Lines Life & Health Insurance Agency Producer. Prior to entering the insurance industry in 1994 Debbie had worked as a nurse since the early 1980's. Since she served in medical surgical units such as the Katy Community Hospital and provided home health care services to senior citizens at numerous health care clinics, hospital facilities,  and/or agencies; Debbie's health care experience provided her with a very strong background for evaluating & underwriting health insurance related risks.

In July 2007 Deborah L. Hemphill assumed the role of the general operations manager at Hemphill Insurance Agency. Since that time she very successfully directed the growth of the agency's personal and commercial lines departments administrative systems; as the agency's general office and accounting manager. On January 27th , 2012 Deborah L. Hemphill added the ability to directly market property & casualty insurance lines as a Texas Licensed General Lines Insurance Agent and has recently enrolled in the Certified Insurance Counselors continuing education program with a goal of eventually earning her CIC designation in the near future.

Hemphill Insurance Agency - TheIndependentInsuranceAgency.com Inc. ;was incorporated on February 8th , 2012  to assume and provide all future ongoing insurance services to all current and new customers. Ed Hemphill will remain with this newly organized agency as it's Manager of Property & Casualty Marketing Department and is merging all existing personal and commercial lines property & casualty accounts into this newly formed corporate insurance business enterprise.

Debbie & Ed ;  will again be leading our agencies efforts towards opportunities & growth in the personal and commercial lines property & casualty markets through the use of advanced web site based technology via our proprietary web sites. The formal training required to become a CIC includes 100 classroom hours and the successful completion of five comprehensive exams, with an annual update required to ensure that CICs maintain their edge as the most capable and current insurance practitioners in the industry.
